It's the night before the surgery; fear is creeping over you like an incoming tide... you can't sleep, only nightmares await in the pre-dawn darkness.
Anyone who has ever had a surgical or other invasive medical procedure might just recognize these feelings, though perhaps not that severly. Yet that is what the phobia sufferer feels, and in this first part of the Gallery that is what I have sought to convey - the gnawing dread that builds to a screaming crescendo as the time draws near. This is what the base, animal part of the mind comprehends - savage monsters with dripping fangs out to rend flesh, not what the reasoning brain knows is true. I know doctors certainly are not ravening wolves, nor I their prey, but extreme fear clouds that reasoning.
